A 467 x 605mm half pad sheet of genuine Jansen nest pad. Enough to line two standard nest boxes with material to spare, or to cover a brooder floor, a roll-away tray or a run of homemade boxes in one go.
Buying it as a sheet means it fits boxes we have never seen — which, judging by the photos customers send us, is most of them.
Cut it with scissors, in about a minute
The mat cuts cleanly with a decent pair of household scissors or a utility knife against a straight edge — no heat, no special tools. Lay your nest box on top, draw round the inside, and cut. If you are lining several boxes, cut one, check the fit, then use it as the template for the rest.
A Dine-A-Chook single or twin nest box has a floor of roughly 276 x 285mm, so one mat per bay. Milk crates, homemade boxes, brooder floors and roll-away trays are all fair game — that is the point of buying it as a sheet.
Why a mat at all
A nest liner gives the hen something to settle into, keeps eggs off bare timber so fewer crack, and lifts the nest off the floor of the box so droppings and damp bedding do not sit against the eggs. When it gets dirty you pull it out, hose it, let it dry and put it back — far quicker than digging out and replacing straw or shavings.
Delivered rolled
The mat ships rolled, so it will arrive with a curl in it. Lay it flat, or upside down in the sun for ten minutes, and it settles. Cutting it while it is still curled is harder than it needs to be — let it relax first.

How many nest boxes will a half sheet line?
Two standard boxes comfortably, with material left over. A Dine-A-Chook box floor is roughly 276 x 285mm; this sheet is 467 x 605mm. If you are doing three or more, the full sheet is better value again.
Should I buy this or the pre-cut mats?
Buy the pre-cut mat if you have Dine-A-Chook boxes and want it to drop straight in with no effort. Buy the sheet if your boxes are a different size, if you are lining more than one, or if you would rather cut the shapes yourself. Both are the same material.
How do I cut it?
Household scissors will do it, or a utility knife run against a straight edge. The material cuts cleanly and does not fray, so the edge does not need finishing. Let the roll relax flat first - cutting it while curled is unnecessarily fiddly.
Can I use it for a brooder floor or a roll-away tray?
Yes, and it is a good use for a half sheet. It gives chicks grip underfoot instead of a slippery surface, and it lifts out for cleaning in one piece.
How do I clean it?
Pull it out, hose it down, stand it up to dry and drop it back in. That is the whole job. It does not absorb water the way straw or shavings do, so it dries quickly. Never use boiling water on it.
Which birds is it suitable for?
Chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea fowl and most other poultry. It is the same material used commercially under laying hens, so it stands up to daily use.
