Dried Black Soldier Fly Larvae

Black soldier fly larvae, dried: the insect treat chicken keepers scatter for the flock and reptile keepers know as calci worms. We sell them in three sizes, a single 250g bag, a pair of bags and four bags, and it is the same larvae in every one. Nothing added: no preservatives, no additives, no coating. The larvae are imported and cleared through Australian biosecurity, then packed and posted from our warehouse in Townsville to every Australian state and territory.

How people use them

A few from your hand, or a handful scattered so every bird gets a share. The larvae are high in protein and a natural source of calcium, and they are a treat alongside a complete feed, not a replacement for it. Feed them dry, or soak a handful in warm water for animals that prefer them soft.

"My chickens love the black soldiers." - Lee, 2022

A hen that has not met a dried larva before may look at it sideways for a day. Hand-feed a couple to the boldest bird and the rest of the flock follows her.

Three sizes, same larvae

  • 250g - the everyday bag
  • 500g - two sealed 250g bags, the size people buy for lizards, wild birds and ducks as well as the chooks
  • 1kg - four sealed 250g bags, our biggest size

The bigger sizes are packed as separate 250g bags so only one is ever open; the rest stay sealed until you get to them.

Not just for chickens

Ducks, quail, turkeys, guinea fowl, wild birds, bearded dragons, blue-tongues, turtles and pond fish all eat dried black soldier fly larvae, and because there is nothing added it is the same product whoever you are feeding.

Keeping them

Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and reseal the bag after each use. No fridge, nothing to add.
