Spray what you can reach. Smoke what you can’t.
A proper coop clean-out has two halves. The spray-down covers everything you can touch: surfaces, perches, nesting boxes, feeders, drinkers and water lines. But disease doesn’t only live where the cloth goes — it sits in the cracks between boards, behind the nesting boxes, up in the roof space. That’s the smoke’s job: it fills the whole airspace and settles on every surface as it cools, finishing what the spray started. Commercial poultry sheds run exactly this sequence at every clean-out; this kit is the same two steps, sized for a backyard.
What’s included:
- 1× Virkon S Disinfectant 50g — mixes into the spray for the wipe-down stage, as the label directs
- 1× Freezone Big Smoke OPP Disinfectant 30g — treats an enclosed space up to 30m³
The two-step clean-out
- Step 1 — clean and spray. Bedding out, surfaces scrubbed, then the Virkon S spray over surfaces, feeders, drinkers and water lines.
- Step 2 — fumigate. Bedding and equipment back in place, then the Big Smoke tin finishes the job — treating the air, the fresh litter and every surface at once, 24–48 hours before the birds return.
Step by step, both halves: cleaning the coop and disinfecting it once it’s clean.
When to run the full reset
- The annual deep clean — most keepers pick the end of winter, before spring laying
- After illness has been through the flock
- Before new birds arrive, or after taking on a second-hand coop
Using it safely
- The smoke treats an empty coop — birds, pets and people out from lighting until it’s been aired well
- Gloves for both products; don’t breathe the smoke — light it and leave
- Sit the tin on a brick, paver or tile — never on bedding or timber, and never inside a bucket or pail
- Keep the tin away from ponds, fish tanks and waterways — the active is toxic to aquatic life
- Store both in original packaging, out of reach of children
Always read both labels and follow the directions for use. Australia-only delivery.
Goes with
- Big Smoke OPP 30g single — a second tin for the feed shed
- Dine-A-Chook Large Feeder — keeps feed off the ground and wild birds out of it
