Want a feeder that stands out in your coop — and catches your chickens’ attention?
The Big Red is the same trusted Large Feeder that 50,000+ Aussie chook keepers rely on, in a bold all-red colourway. Same capacity, same waste-reducing design, same rain hood — just a look that stands out and a colour poultry are naturally drawn to. If you want your setup to look as good as it works, this is the one.
How does The Big Red work?
Same mechanism as the standard Large Feeder. Easy to refill — just turn the handle on the lid to lift it off, pour in feed, and twist it back on. Feed gravity-feeds into a hooded base opening. The hood gives your hens room to eat comfortably, but the shape prevents the raking and flicking motion that scatters feed onto the ground. A built-in rain hood channels water away from the opening, keeping feed dry outdoors. No moving parts, no training — your chickens start eating within minutes.
What size flock is The Big Red for?
The 4.7L capacity suits flocks of around 6–8 hens. It holds roughly 3.7kg of feed — about 5–7 days’ worth on quality complete pellets. Enough to leave your flock for a long weekend without worrying about feed. Browse all Dine-A-Chook chicken feeders to find the right size for your setup.
Prefer the classic white? The Large Feeder does the same job at $69.95. Want a two-tone look? The Red & White version is $5 less.
What’s in the box?
Feeder with twist-on lid, 2 steel mounting brackets, 4 self-tapping screws, and an installation guide. Mounts directly to timber — ready to install, no extra parts needed.
Mounting to wire mesh? You’ll need the Wire Mesh Mounting Kit (sold separately).
What feed works best with The Big Red?
Works best with quality complete feed — crumble or pellets. These give your hens balanced nutrition in every bite and reduce selective eating. Grain mixes let hens pick their favourites and miss essential nutrients.
If the feed level looks low in the tray, that’s by design — it keeps feed away from edges so your hens can’t flick it out. Try the finger test: push your finger into the opening. If you can move the feed, your chickens can reach it.
Why is The Big Red built to last?
Made from UV-resistant ASA plastic — the same material as the white version, engineered to resist colour fading and UV degradation. The red is part of the plastic itself, not a coating, so it won’t peel, chip, or wash off. Every component is injection moulded in Brisbane and assembled in Townsville. No moving parts means nothing to jam, seize, or break. Backed by a 3-year warranty.
