New regulations now apply to the purchase and use of bird netting in the state of Victoria. If you are located in Victoria, please ensure your use of this netting meets the requirements below prior to purchase.

In Victoria, it is prohibited to purchase and use bird netting with an aperture size greater than 5mm x 5mm at full stretch to protect household fruiting plants. Failure to comply with this regulation could result in a fine. A 2-penalty unit infringement notice will result in a fine of approximately $363 and a court-applied penalty for a breach of these regulations can be up to 15 penalty units ($2726 approx.).

Animal Welfare Victoria describes ‘household’ fruit-trees, vegetable gardens, or other fruiting plants as:

  • grown at residential premises in an urban or suburban area; or
  • if grown at residential premises in a semi-rural or rural area, grown primarily for personal use (even if some excess produce is shared or sold).

This bird netting IS NOT suitable for household use in the state of Victoria. If you are looking for bird netting for household use, click here.

This bird netting can be legally purchased for commercial use in the state of Victoria. Commercial use includes commercial orchards, vineyards or fruit and vegetable produce businesses. Where the objective of growing the trees or plants is to produce a commercial harvest for sale, with the intent to make a profit, the scale of such an activity should be consistent with other commercial orchards, vineyards or produce businesses.

If you reside in Victoria, you will be required to affirm that this netting is being purchased for commercial use only prior to your order being filled. Dine a Chook will NOT be held liable if this product is purchased or used in a manner not permitted by Victorian law.

This large anti-bird netting is the ideal choice for use on hobby farms, small orchards and for other home projects. Protect your fruit trees from birds and caterpillars, or stop pigeons from roosting in the eaves. This practically invisible mesh is perfect for where you don't want unsightly netting to ruin the view.

  • Nursery protection, including seedlings and root stock
  • In and around the chicken run
  • As a pond or pool protector, to keep leaves and debris out of the water

How to get the most out of the bird netting:

While the bird netting can be draped over plants and trees, for a long-lasting netting, that stops bird invasions it is best to attach onto a frame. Another option is to fix tightly to the base of a tree. Both these methods will see your netting last longer, and also stop wildlife becoming tangled in the netting

  1. Stretch the netting to the width
  2. Trim to size
  3. Attach to frame, or drape over trees/plants
