What are Black Soldier Fly Larvae?
Black Soldier Flies (Hermetia illucens) are common throughout Australia. They are a small, black fly that is often mistaken for a wasp. Soldier Flies are often seen in garden composts, where their larvae help to break down vegetable matter.
Black Solider Fly Larvae are so efficient at processing waste, reducing the greenhouse gas produced in landfill, that Forbes magazine has labelled them the “superstars of sustainable aquaculture” while The Washington Posthighlighted their potential as a protein source for pet foods.

Black Soldier Fly Larvae for animals
For birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, spiders and small mammals, Black Solider Fly Larvae can be used as a treat or training reward. For some species, such as reptiles and fish, they may be suitable as a main source of food.
