Making an DIY Automatic Chicken Drinker
If you're new to keeping chickens, the DIY approach to Chicken hydration can be a little daunting. (Ready to go Drinkers are here) Cheap and nasty drinkers found in many rural fodder and pet stores are simply not good enough and often lead to unhealthy chickens due to the fact that the water becomes mouldy and often gets contaminated with dirt. A Dine a Chook chicken coop watering system will ensure healthy and happy poultry for many years.
DIY chicken coop watering systems are found on thousands of websites. It seems a new idea is published weekly. Consider these points though if you are considering creating your own design.
Will my automatic waterers for chickens keep the water free of dirt and other contaminants?
Dine a Chook Drinkers keep water within the container 100% Clean and Fresh. While some dirt is carried in the beaks of birds and may accumulate in the Lubing Cup, this is very minimal and a weekly rinse is all that is required. Drinker Nipples on the other hand are the ultimate water delivery method and always remain clean and free of any contaminants.
Will my system significantly minimize the risk of spreading disease should one of the birds in my flock become sick?
Disease prevention is critical. Just one sick bird can easily spread the disease via a poorly maintained hydration system costing breeders millions of dollars in loss. Avoid the devastating loss of your poultry by implementing a system used by professionals.
Will my system offer long term value for money?
If you buy a cheap and nasty chicken drinker from a pet or Rural store you may get a few months use. UV rays from sunlight will degrade the cheap plastic very quickly plus the water contained in the drinker will go mouldy in a few days.
