Benefits of Lubing Nipples in Your Chicken Coop

  • Hygiene: Keeps drinking water free from faecal contamination, ensuring healthier poultry.
  • Cleanliness: The gravity-fed system prevents leaks, maintaining a drier and healthier coop environment.
  • User-Friendly: Chickens naturally adapt to this drinking method quickly with no need for training.
  • Scalable Water Supply: Automatically adjusts the water flow as chickens grow, allowing them to access more water by pressing the pin deeper.
  • Durability: Made with high-quality stainless steel and an industrial-grade plastic housing, these nipples are built to last longer than other brands.
  • Automatic Hydration: Provides on-demand water supply, ensuring your chickens are hydrated whenever they need.

Is DIY Right for You?

Setting up a DIY Poultry Drinker is ideal for keepers with large flocks, multiple breeding pens, or extensive hatching operations. However, for smaller setups, consider our cost-effective, ready-made Chicken Drinkers and Automatic Mains Pressure Drinkers.

How to Install a DIY Lubing Poultry Nipple Line

  1. Water Source: Connect your water source to a Dine-A-Chook Mains Pressure Header tank which balances the water supply without pressure, ideal for nipple systems.
  2. Set the Correct Height: Install the nipples so they can be reached by the smallest bird at a 45-degree angle upward.
  3. Prepare the Pipe: Cut and seal one end of your PVC pipe, drill and tap holes to screw in the nipples without over-tightening.
  4. Mount the Pipe: Use brackets to securely mount the pipe, potentially using a pulley system for easy adjustments.
  5. Connect and Check: Attach your water line to the header tank, ensuring the nipples are no more than 30 cm below the tank to avoid leaks.

FAQ

Q. How do I install Lubing Nipples?

A. Simply drill a 9 mm hole in your poultry drinker line or outlet, and gently screw the Nipple into the hole. No PVC cement or sealant should be required.

Q. Can I use Nipple outlets with mains water?

A. A header tank or other pressure regulator is recommended for using Nipple outlets with mains water.

Q. Can I use Nipple outlets with a rainwater tank?

A. Due to the large volume of water, a header tank or pressure regulator should be used with your Nipple outlets.

Q. How old do chickens have to be to use a Nipple drinker?

A. Nipple outlets can be used with day old chicks and older. You may need to tap the Nipple gently to show chicks how to drink. Always observe new chicks closely to ensure that they can all find water.

Q. What type of birds can use a Nipple Drinker Outlet?

A. Nipple Drinkers are ideal for ducks and geese, which tend to make a mess of the drinking water. But chickens, quail, pigeons, other poultry, aviary birds and game birds can all use Nipple Drinkers.
